Digital replica of a popular table football game in Brazil

Toque de Bola brings the Brazilian tabletop game futebol de botão to a mobile device as a two-player, one-device game. It recreates full match flow (turns, possession, throw-ins, corners, goal kicks), fouls and free kicks, penalty kicks, optional piece repositioning, and edge flicks for pieces stuck on the line.

Four problems stood out along the way. First, getting real-world physics onto glass meant researching the mass, friction and bounce of physical pieces, ball, surface and walls, then encoding them into movement and impact equations, tuned live in-app before that debug layer was stripped out for launch. Second, translating the flick itself (a real finger strike isn't possible on a touchscreen) led to a drag-and-release interaction like Angry Birds, with a modified “edge flick” for pieces caught against the device's border. Third, recreating the rulebook meant going beyond the basics to the advanced options (pieces per player, flicks per turn, mandatory ball contact, fouls to penalty) which were made configurable rather than fixed. And finally, building a computer opponent, still on the roadmap after first release, meant taming an effectively infinite move space by abstracting the CPU to four move types per piece (attack, defend, pass, foul) scaled by a random error factor for difficulty.
